the art of talking...
this morning i came across a woman whom i sought to love without knowing really how. into the sanctuary she came with a man in tow; her former spouse and children sat a few rows back. i struggled. not to love her, but what to say. in the absence of words i feel i let her down. this is the church that hurts - the silent one. what do i say? "nice to meet you, i know you've monumentally hurt your family. sir, do you know this woman used to love the Lord along side her family?" no. how do i share the love of Christ when i don't know what to say. could the fumble of Leah's words be soothing the soul - just because i try? i lack the eloquent side of speech. can i even relate, i've only been married a year (today!). who am i to think i know what she's been through? i don't.
the art of talking. staying calm and knowing that the Lord has spoken through a donkey - i'm sure He's King of my lips if i allow Him the opportunity. instead i often remain silent.
Lord, teach me to speak when stirred. i coward and hide when you call me to love those i don't understand.
